Eating disorders in the U.S. by the numbers:
- 7 million women and 1 million men have an eating disorder
- 152 million people know someone with an eating disorder
- 7.5% of anorexics die within 10 years; 35% will make a full recovery
- 1 in 10 people with an eating disorder receives treatment
- 80% of Americans seeking treatment do not receive adequate treatment
- 40% of newly identified cases of anorexia are in girls 15- to 19-years old
- 81% of 10-year-old girls are afraid to be fat
