Denise Austin's Morning Stretch

Boost Your Iron!
Are you tired, irritated, and distracted? If so, researchers from Penn State say you may not be getting enough iron in your diet. Iron helps your body build red blood cells, which in turn carry oxygen to everything from your brain to your toes! Similar to how a fire smothers without air, your cells don't operate at full speed without an ample oxygen supply — but with it, they can burn bright! (Think Popeye after a can of spinach!)

Give your cells a hand by adding some iron-rich foods to your daily menu! Try lean red meat, eggs, leafy greens, dried beans and peas, dried fruit, nuts, peanut butter, blackstrap molasses, and iron-fortified cereals and grains. A daily multivitamin can also help cover the bases. If your iron levels are seriously low, you may need to take iron supplements. Talk to your doctor if you suspect you are iron deficient or anemic.
