Healthy Mexican, Amigos!Your local Mexican restaurant can be a haven for delicious fatty and salty foods — fried tortilla chips, high-fat meats, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and refried beans. But would I ever tell you to give up Mexican? No way, José! All I ask is that you make smart choices. Whenever possible, order items à la carte. If you do order an entrée that comes with rice and beans, ask your server to hold the rice and serve you only the beans (if they're not refried).

Here are a few mouthwatering yet healthy Mexican menu suggestions:

Chicken, beef, or shrimp fajitas, with black beans or salad on the side instead of rice
Carne asada — steak with onions and peppers
Shrimp diablo — this dish is grilled with garlic butter, so ask them to go easy on that
Grilled fish tacos, with one corn tortilla rather than two
Taco and tostada salads with chicken, beef, or shrimp for protein — don't eat the taco bowl
