Chocolate Cravings
Q: I can live without candy, cookies, and cake — even lemon meringue pie — but a life without chocolate just doesn't seem worth living to me. I didn't see any chocolate in any of the snacks in my meal planner. I really do want to look hot on the beach this summer — does that mean I can never have chocolate again?
A: As long as you're choosing foods that are rich in nutrients most of the time, an occasional treat won't sabotage your success. The key is moderation, so stick to occasional treats in only small portions. It doesn't take much to satisfy your sweet tooth — a single square of high-quality, dark chocolate (which also has antioxidant properties) can give you the taste sensation you crave. And if you're out to dinner with friends, splitting a dessert is an easy way to make sure that you don't overindulge.

Cut the Cravings
Next time you feel a craving coming on, ask yourself what exactly is the taste or texture you're looking for: something crunchy, salty, sweet, or smooth and creamy? Then try to find a healthy treat that can give you what you want. For instance, pickles make a great crunchy, salty treat, while yogurt is a great smooth and creamy snack.
