To gauge how much you're walking now and help you bump up that number, use a pedometer to measure how many steps you currently take in a day.Treadmill TricksMake your treadmill workout more effective and interesting by trying these tricks:

1. Walk at a speed of 4.0 at a 4.0 incline for your entire workout.

2. Walk your regular "fast" speed for one minute, then up it to a really challenging level for 30 seconds. Go back down to starting speed and repeat cycle for your entire workout.

3. Experiment with different programs, such as rolling hills or peaks, on your treadmill.

4. Increase your speed by 0.2, every minute for five minutes then work your way back down to your starting speed. Repeat this cycle for your entire workout.
