Girls hoops
Belmont 63,
Watertown 55
Despite a 17-point deficit after one quarter, the Watertown High girls basketball team kept battling against Middlesex League-leading Belmont last night and nearly pulled off the miracle comeback in a 63-55 defeat.

``We've seen it spiral the other way (after a bad start) and the girls hung tough tonight,'' said Watertown coach John Rimas. ``We have been playing with more confidence in general that we can play with these teams. We got way behind in the first quarter tonight, but starting in the second quarter it was a different story.

''The Raiders outscored the Marauders, 50-41, in the final three quarters. Senior point guard Emilie DeBaie had Watertown's first five points of the game and finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Brittany Obi-Tabot had 15 points and 15 rebounds, while freshman Shanise Bultron was the team's leading scorer with 16 points.

DANIELLE'S COMMENTS: I had to do just a little bragging. Belmont is the best team in the conference and we hung with them. Way to go Lady RAIDERS! If you want to catch a home game, TONIGHT they are playing Winchester at 5:30pm. Go get em girls!
