Everyday Tips
Pick Up Your Pace

A few simple ways to add physical activity into your daily routine.

In addition to cutting out fatty, cholesterol-heavy foods, it’s necessary to make exercise a priority if you want to fight high cholesterol. Regular exercise can bring down your LDL levels (bad cholesterol), help lower triglycerides, and raise your HDL levels (the good stuff). Being physically active most days of the week may seem overwhelming, but you can do it.
These strategies can help you get moving, even if you do the activities in small intervals throughout the day:
*
Instead of e-mailing or phoning colleagues, walk to their offices and back again.
* Challenge your child to jump rope for 5 minutes. When he or she is done, enjoy a big hug. Then, give it a try yourself!
* Play outside with the dog for 20 minutes after work.
Then, try some more vigorous activity:
* When you're out walking, pick up your pace. Go faster than you usually do.
* Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
